How do I configure my computer for DHCP using Windows XP in the dorms?

You may configure your Windows XP system in Category View by following the steps below

  • Click on the Start button and select Control Panel. In the resulting window, click the Network and Internet Connections icon
  • Select the Network Connections icon
  • Double-click the Local Area Connection icon corresponding to your network hardware to bring up the Local Area Connection Status window.
  • Click the Properties button
  • In the Local Area Connection Properties window, locate the entry labeled Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).  Click to select it, and then click on the Properties button.
  • Choose the options for Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically
  • Click OK to close the window, click OK in the Local Area Connection Properties window, and click OK in the Local Area Connection Status window.
