How do I configure Mac OS X with Mail using SSH?

  1. To access the OS X Mail client, double click Mail in the Applications folder
    Note: If this is the initial time you are using Mail you be greeted by the account creation helper
  2. If you already have an account, from the Mail menu select the Preferences item.
  3. From the menu spanning the top of the screen select Accounts
  4. Click Account Information tab
  5. Confirm your Incoming Mail Server is either andromeda.rutgers.edu or pegasus.rutgers.edu
  6. Click Server Settings button
  7. In the Outgoing Mail Server field confirm that you either have andromeda.rutgers,edu or pegasus.rutgers.edu entered.
  8. Place a check mark in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box.
    a) Select Password from the Authentication   drop-down menu.
    b) Enter your NetID in the User Name field
  9. Click OK to close the window
    Note: Some Internet Service Providers (ISP) require that you use their SMTP servers for outgoing email. If you are able to receive but not send email contact your ISP for the required outgoing email settings.
  10. Click the small red X in the upper-left corner of the Accounts window. If requested to save changes, click SAVE button.
