File Transfer Protocol(FTP) is a method of moving files between your computer(local system) and another computer such as andromeda or pegasus(remote system). Secure FTP (SFTP) is an updated version of FTP that transmits both your password and data in an encrypted form. You can obtain an SFTP client by downloading Secure Shell and FTP 3.2.x from

https://software.rutgers.edu

for your windows PC. A popular SFTP client for Macintosh OS X freely available on the web is FUGU. A command line version of SFPT for Linux  available for free is openssh.
