You can set spam to be automatically deleted for a period from 1 day to 30 days, or never.   By default it will delete spam every 14 days. Once you have an idea of how the filter is applying itself, you can change the frequency of spam deletion.  To configure spam deletion direct your browser to http://www.ncs.rutgers.edu/tools.html and from appropriate section select Spam Filtering.
