You connect to the network by using a Network
Interface Card (NIC). That device has a
specific address associated with it and when you register your machine, your
NIC address is registered to your IP Address, just like your Name (Name) is
registered to your Mailing Address (NIC).
When you get a new computer it is like getting a new mailing
address. In order to get online with
your new computer, you need to deregister your old Network Interface Card and
register your new one. To do this, you
just need to call the Help Desk and we will deregister your machine.
